Dual Booting Windows and Linux can be cool, until it breaks the time clock on your PC/Laptop!

Dual Booting Windows and Linux can be cool because you can have both software worlds and be able to run any program you want based on what you need, but its cool until it breaks the time clock on your PC/Laptop!

have you noticed when you boot into windows its over hours of difference then what it should be?

The reason why this is happening is because Linux is using the Universal Time Clock while Microsoft Windows is using the local time clock.

The best and easy way to fix this would be to set Linux use the Local Time as well instead of the Universal Time Clock.

as long as your Linux is Debian based you should be able to open the terminal and run the following command

timedatectl set-local-rtc 1 --adjust-system-clock

Then to check and see if the the settings have properly been applied then type

timedatectl

Now if you see RTC (Regional Time Clock) in local TZ (Time Zone) and it states YES beside it then your are all set, and when you reboot into windows should you need to change the time again it should be for the last time and not be impacted again!

Boot Repair is Critical to have for Emergency

Boot Repair is a critical tool to have for emergency if you cant happen to boot your computer properly!

It is so helpful that even if you don't have Linux but just Windows and it doesn't boot for some reason it could still help you fix your boot problems!

This boot repair tool can be obtained in more ways then one!

The First option is to Download it, Burn it to a Disk and store it in a safe location in case of emergency to troubleshoot your computer!

The second option if you happen to have Linux Installed is to to install this utility to the Linux Operating System using the following commands in the Linux Terminal

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yannubuntu/boot-repair
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y boot-repair && boot-repair

Overclocking the Hard Disk, specifically Windows Partition!

Making Windows run Faster on an Old Fashion Mechanically Spinning Hard DISK(SATA,IDE type) can be accomplished by Overclocking the Hard Disk specifically in Windows Partition only!

Microsoft Windows NT based is normally installed on NTFS partition with a default cluster size of 4K(4096 bytes) the good side of it is that it simply doesn't get too full too fast, but the weaker side of it is that it becomes too slow and fragmented in a very small amount of time!

Too small not just because its running on a small cluster size (4k) partition but because it even compresses files smaller then they are when you don't access them frequently and then when you want to access them for the first time in a long time sometimes they become corrupted, broken, inaccessible, fragmented and unrecoverable!

Overclocking the Hard Disk, Specifically Windows Partition can be very logical and easily applied! As I have shown in One of my YouTube Videos how to install Windows on High Cluster Size Partition even though I have shown how to install it in a 64K cluster size for the sake that its possible, I would Only install it and run it in the range between 8k-16k cluster size partition simply to have less fragmentation on the hard disk and faster processing of files and data and also because many software programs designed for windows wouldn't be compatible on such a high cluster size as 64k!

Of course using higher then default cluster size partition would force the computer to write more data at higher block size at faster rate to the hard disk so I wouldn't install windows in higher then 8K(8192bytes) cluster size, its more then enough to feel performance difference even in the worst browser Internet Explorer!

When you are backing up data to an external hard disk its OK to to use the highest cluster size for a backup partition but when you are trying to run a Windows Operating System it has to consistently deal with Windows C:\ drive while its running so don't push the button if you want to use the hard disk longer (8K cluster size) should be more then enough to experience and feel a tremendous difference!

If you are wild like me and you want to experiment higher then 8193 bytes cluster size C:\ drive partition then your hard disk better be at least 7,200 RPM not 5,600 RPM!

Linux Mint isn't Hacked!

I Still Can't Believe that Linux Mint Website and their Image has been modified online! What disturbs me even more is that its been done Through a Bulgarian Server!

I am not sure if I am supposed to be impressed or disappointed!

I am proud to be Bulgarian from a nation filled with history and human occupation from over 1.4 million years ago.

I hope all Linux Distros Learn to  have a secure website when they provide Open Source Linux!

As far as I am concerned Linux Mint isn't Hacked because it's simply their website and their software image online so anyone who has downloaded and installed Linux Mint on February 20th, 2016 from their site might have been compromised with bad image!

The Message I am Reading is "If you Can't Hack it, Modify it!" cause Linux is awesome!

Anyone who has downloaded and/or installed Linux Mint prior to that date should be OK! I've installed my Linux Mint over a Year ago and its perfectly fine and fast and yes EVEN SECURE!

Install Tor Browser on Linux!

Tor Browser is assigned to help you browse the INTERNET more anonymously without being traced, target marketed and/or followed based on your hobbies and interests on-line.

There is a lot of controversy whether its right or wrong to use it online because if someone with bad hobbies uses it such as hacking, visiting inappropriate content on line and or etc.. it can be a bad thing for society.

But if you are a general INTERNET user who simply hates websites tracing your hobbies with third party cookies, advertisements, pop ups and etc.. and hate being restricted from websites that are only allowed to be visit within a region or country and want to be able to visit over 99 percent of all websites around the world then you should give the Tor Browser a Try!

It's like a specifically custom designed Firefox browser that connects to dozens of other computers(networks around the world) that would help you connect to sites that you normally wouldn't be able to visit. so when those computers connect to those sites it would display the content on your computer using the tor browser!

think of it as a preconfigured proxy server without any complicated configuration!

Installing it on Windows or the MAC is pretty easy and straight forward that's why I decided to help you install it on Linux (Debian type)

open the terminal and type the following commands

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/tor-browser

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install tor-browser

when you are done installing it you can enjoy the Tor Browser on your Linux OS.

Please comment what you think of it and don't forget to subscribe!

UEFI Boot could become the new Default Boot for Future Computers

UEFI Boot could become the new Default Boot for Future Computers without support for Legasy OS, and if you are intersted in trying other Operating Systems(Windows 7, Vista, STEAM OS, Ubuntu, Linux Mint, etc..) on your computer you might not be able to!

Many Computer Users around the world have learned to experiment their computers with various operating systems, Sometimes even an Operating System like Windows Vista can work better then Windows 7 on a particalar computer model.

Not All computers are the same that's why its important to have the option to try a different OS to see which OS performs best.

Next Time you purchase a brand New Computer make sure you ask the sales person if the computer supports Legasy OS, cause if it doesnt you might not even be able to try a newer operating system then the one it comes with either not just older once!

It will also help you find out if the sales person knows what you are talking about or are they just in for the money!

If UEFI(Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) boot becomes non-optinal this could force you to buy a new computer when a new OS comes out, todays computers are pretty fast and up to date since they are all 64bit based and as longs they are running on a SSD drive.

It's important to have a computer that will suport todays, pasts and future Operating Systems like it has always been upto now.

How to make your Old computer run like New!

You probably have a 5-8 year old computer and its getting older and slower and you are probably thinking of getting a new computer but money is a bit tide right now for a big purchase!

You have possibly upgraded your RAM before and it still doesn't seems to show you any sign of progress.

Maybe even worse and you have upgraded to Over 4GB Memory and realized that you cant really enjoy the benefits out of it because your system can only support 32bit operating system not 64bit and it cant read or use over 3GB memory.

You have installed CCleaner to keep it always clean from junk, bad cookies and web history etc.., you have installed Malwarebytes to keep it secure from most malware, spyware, adware, and/or viruses, you have scheduled Disk Defragmenter to keep the hard disk maintained even after you recently purchased a new hard disk to replace your old one! You've also used CCLeaner or MSCONFIG to disable useless start-up programs that take too much of your RAM on the Computer that slows it down a lot!

You have taken every step and precaution possible to keep it running like new and in matter of months if not weeks its supper slow all over again!

WHAT GIVES?

Technology is so fast today that unless most of your computer components are up to date nothing will keep up!

Have you ever asked yourself a question such as..?Why is my smartphone faster then my computer? My computer has a better advanced processor, more memory, larger hard disk space but you can check your email, play a video on YouTube and make a phone call by the time your laptop or desktop computer fully boots!

Most Computers even with the latest processors and computer components still continue to come with old fashioned mechanical spinning hard disks. This Old Fashioned Hard Disks(HDD) Have Made a lot of History over the Years since the computing revolution began but their time has come where they are slower then the tasks required to do what you need on a regular basis.

You Need to replace your old technology HDD(Hard Disk) with the latest SSD(Solid State Drive)! If your Old Computer supports SATA type of Hard Disk then you are in luck to try a Solid State Disk on your computer today. Solid State Disks have actually been around for quite some time but only recently began to be more affordable then ever before. Less then 2 Years Ago an SSD Drive with a size of 128GB-256GB would cost from $500 to $1000 that's practically more then a whole new computer alone that's why the manufacturers have never begun to include them in their computers when they build them! But Today you can get a 256GB-512GB between $150 to $250 US dollars!

Look around at different electronic stores to where you live, compare their prices and decide to get one that you can most afford and make your old computer run like never before. Make it Even Faster then When it was Brand New since your computer never came with SSD even in day one of is existence before it was used and turned on for the first time!

In case you are wondering why I used smartphone as an example earlier its because they are computers that are super fast because they are computers that don't depend on old fashioned mechanical spinning hard disks, other wise how can people rotate their phones on a table when they are bored, or play games rotating and tapping their phones and tablets with their hands and fingers left, right and center, you cant do that with a mechanically Old Fashioned Spinning Hard Disk. All phones would crash daily on regular basis and will need to be changed hourly not daily which is obviously unrealistically foolish to even consider!

HDD is the PAST, SSD is the PRESENT

Improve Linux Gaming and Creativity

Gaming on Linux has gained allot of recognition over the last 15 months since Steam for Linux was released in Mid February 2013.

This is practically a Dream Come true for dozens of Computer Builders, Linux Fans, Huge Gamers, Software Developers and etc..

The Linux Community has gained allot more recognition and recommendations from fans around the world. I sometimes help the Internet Community with Computer Tips on Yahoo Answers as well and I have to tell you that I am impressed with how many computer related questions are answered with Linux Related Answers.

Many things are certainly shifting to the Unix-Like Technology(Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Android Phones and Tablets, Apple Products, Smart Tv's and etc..) in today's World.

Linux has always been awesome but limited to software in a sense that most high demand software was written for Windows and/or MAC OS X.

Because One Important class of Software (GAMES) is beginning to be available for Linux many more software developers are coming in to expand Linux recognition through beta tests and experiments with new software creativity, Many More New Comers are willing to Learn Linux on how to use it and even kids, teenagers and/or young adults who are mostly into games.

If you are a gamer you can help Improve the Linux Gaming Community by downloading and installing the Steam Client on Linux and then even sign up for Beta Testing

Open and Sign in to the Steam Client then click View on the top left corner of the client then Settings then under the Account Tab you should see a section where it says Beta Participation.

Under Beta Participation the client will state whether you have signed up to participate or not. If you decide to sign up you just click on CHANGE and then select Steam Beta Update under Beta Participation.

Signing up for Beta Testing would allow you to test out many future games and applications before it becomes official! You'll always be up to date with the latest testings on Steam Applications!

There has even been some talks about having a Netflix App on Steam client in the near future but its NOT Official its all just Talk.

You have to remember that Beta is experimental and never stable, sometimes it works sometimes its doesn't but doing so will make you a participant in a fast growing Linux Community to improve Linux Gaming and Creativity.

How to Make your Internet Experience Faster with CCleaner !

Learning how to make your computer running Microsoft Windows OS faster with CCLeaner is very beneficial, important and easy!

Many people that have downloaded CCleaner don't seem to take the full advantage of it yet! For example most users would use it only manually instead of setting it up to run automatically during Windows Boot/Login.

Many users haven't yet discovered that they can even control how many programs load during windows boot. When people install many programs on their computer they also don't realize that a large percentage of those programs become startups that take a large percentage of your Randomly Accessed Memory(RAM, Memory) that slow down the computer!

You can control and/or reduce the list of Startup Programs to prevent too much memory usage. You can repair registry errors that could improve System Stability.

One of my Favorite things of the CCleaner program is that you can even customize it at what level it should clean the disk at!

I chose Secure Deletion with Very Complex Overwrite (35 Passes)! What this means is that when it deletes the temporary unimportant files from the computer even an advanced tool the can recover deleted files like RECUVA couldn't recover it!

There is a very strong advantage to that because I have noticed a tremendous speed increase in web browsing experience using this settings.

The Reason why the internet loads faster with this settings is because when it cleans the previous web history, cookies and etc.. with 35 passes it's almost like you have formatted this particular portion of the hard disk 35 times and every website and video that I visit loads super-fast as if it is already stored on the computer!

In this Video Below I am going to show you how I would recommend setting up and using CCleaner, but some users might not like it because this settings could impact remembering your website logins to various websites, and you might always have to manually log in!

But there is an advantage to that too..! It helps keep your mind sharp by memorizing all your various logins to various websites and it keeps you and your computer more secure!

And Last but not Least most of the things that I've mentioned above could be setup to run automatically at every login on Windows automatically!

Instructions

This instructions apply after you've installed CCleaner

1. Open CCLeaner

2. Click Analyze to see how much space there is available to clean up from the hard disk!

3. Click Run Cleaner (if you still have any web browser open CCleaner will ask if you want it to close the browser for you to delete the history of this web browser as well) I recommend you press Yes. Also select the the checkbox to not show you this message again.

CCleaner will also warn you that it will permanently delete this files from the system so press Yes to agree and one more time another check box not to show you this new message as well again and press OK.

4. Then go to Options Tab after you have cleaned the computer for the first time with CCleaner then select Settings then check mark Run CCleaner when the computer starts.

5. Under Secure Deletion select "Secure File Deletion (slower)" then right under it select "Very Complex Overwrite (35 Passes)" Please Note that it says "slower" but its slow really only the first time unless your hard disk has been overused over the years!

6. Then Click "Advanced" Tab select "Close Program after Cleaning"

7. Then Select "Cleaner" then press "Analyze"

8. After you press Analyze it should show you that there isnt too much space to clean anymore after you've already cleaned it successfully for the first time from step 3 if you've followed it

9. Press "Run Cleaner" because this will be the first time using it with the new settings you just made and CCleaner should close automatically. This could take some time to clean up several megabytes or gigabytes for the first time so please be patient if you skipped step 3

10. After all the Cleanup is done the CCLeaner should have closed automatically and you should now restart the computer and see if it loads automatically at the bottom right corner at start up as it should to clean the hard disk from unimportant files at every boot time from now on!

Private Browsing Chrome on Linux by Default

Google Chrome is an outstanding browser as the world knows it and it always comes built in with the latest Adobe Flash for all my favorite videos and online games, but I still hate that it doesn't offer the option to Private Browse (incognito mode) the web by default!

I really love Linux in stability, security and performance as well and now I can apply familiar options as I do in Windows if I want to setup Google Chrome to start in Incognito Mode(Private Browsing) by default especially since I am not a fan of Web Browsing Cookies, Temporary Internet Files and various forms of web browsing history!

This instructions apply to Ubuntu Linux and Debian Based Linux Distributions(Linux Mint, Debian, and etc..)

First you copy Google Chrome to the Desktop and then you right click the the Google Chrome program and select Properties!

This is where it gets little Tricky but Fairly easy when Properties opens up click inside the Command Line Bar then release the mouse button and press the right arrow key on keyboard to reach till the end of the text! This is not required but recommended to make sure you don't cut or delete anything inside the bar!

When you finally reach the end with the right arrow key press once with the space bar on keyboard and type --incognito then close properties! You are practically done because when you double click on the desktop like usual then Google Chrome should load in Incognito Mode as shown in this video!

But the video also shows you after that how to delete any past web browsing history in case you didn't know how.

Best Linux Games are Waiting for You!

This is it Ladies and Gentleman, its History in the Making! Top Linux Games are Waiting for You!

For over Two Decades we have been depending on Two Primary Operating Systems MAC OS and Microsoft Windows!

We(the Whole World) were mainly limited to what we can do or use on our custom build computers and/or famous computer brands that you buy from local stores featuring these Two History Making Platforms that connected us all!

They Had & Still Have One Incredible Advantage They support over 99.9% of all software around the world!

There was always one hiddenly famous type of Operating System called Linux (Android OS on Phones and Tablets, PlayStation OS, Smart TVs, Wii, Blackberry,Apple and many more Unix-Like platforms but they are private)!

It so hidden that many websites and statistics still claim that no more then 1% percent of the world is using Linux! But what they were really referring to is the Open Source type of Linux (Linux Mint, Ubuntu, Debian, Red Hat, Fedora and so much more)!

The primary difference between Open Source Linux and Private Linux is that on Open Source you can do what you like on the Operating System and even modify the whole system if you know how and have the skills and passion to do so(computer programmers, c++ certified, java and so much more) and submit it to the world if you like!

But Private is what it is and you have to use it how its build, written, and finalized! Most Private Operating Systems are based on skills, knowledge, passions, experiments used on Open Source Linux to make it stable and Final for Private Source!

There is so many software tools to use on Linux like GIMP for free instead of expensive Adobe Photoshop and many more different types of software and tools that can keep up with Windows and Mac OS.

But for all Gamers around the World we had to use Famous Game Consoles(XBOX, PlayStation,Wii, Sega,Nintendo and etc.. over the years) or this two honorable OSs Windows, MAC OS on our computers!

Are you prepared for this Historical Change? I still get the goosebumps!

STEAM from Valve Corporation has released Top Quality Games for Linux such as Counter Strike and Half Life, Europa Universalis IV and so much more!!!

There are still so many games that are not available for Linux but do you have any idea how fast this is growing that I would rather save over $300 on Windows Licence, $80 on Security Software,$100 for virus removal, $150 for computer repair x 10 over the next few years($1500)!

The list of useless expenses is Endless well guess what so are the great Possibilities on Linux!

Thank you Steam, Valve Corporation and endless Game Designing Companies and Industries around the globe! Thank you from the bottom of my Heart!

And let the GAMES BEGIN..........!

exFAT File System for ReadyBoost in Windows 7

ReadyBoost for Windows 7 could prevent computer problems such as slowing down on old computers!

Did you recently upgrade your old computer to Windows 7? Does it seem to run slower then you hoped?

Since your computer is a bit old it could be using an old type of ram! And just because its old it doesn't mean its cheap! As a matter of fact its probably expensive to buy old ram since its a bit outdated and hard to find!

Why not use ReadyBoost for Windows 7 to Speed up your Computer using a blank USB(flash cards)! You can ReadyBoost Windows 7 by formatting an empty USB flash disk and then you right click on the drive go into properties and select ReadyBoost tab and you decider how much space you want to use to help performance

Using ReadyBoost is a great idea because its a very fast, and easy task!

This task literally designed for USB(flash cards) drives so there is no reason not to use it! Doing this will feel like you just upgraded the memory of your computer without opening the computer case and adding more ram!

But you know what else I recommend, using the exFAT file system when you format your USB flash cause its extremely fast and stable compare to FAT, FAT16, FAT32 and/or NTFS file systems!

Factory Restore your Computer

In order to restore your computer to factory settings you need to know what brand your computer is and what current operating system you are using!

Hopefully the computer that you're trying to restore happens to be Vista or Newer from the manufacturer not from the one that you have manually formatted/installed from CD/DVD.

Because in earlier versions not all computers had hidden recovery partitions(drives).

You can use this steps to do it yourself instead of paying someone the big bucks to do it for you!

Below is the list of Computer Brands and each one uses different keys for factory restore. This keys are normally applied the moment you turn the computer ON long before you log on to Microsoft Windows!

The moment you start hearing loud beeping noise you can release the buttons

  • Toshiba - Press and hold 0 or F12
  • HP - Press and hold F11
  • Compaq - Press and hold F11
  • Acer - Press and hold ALT + F10
  • Asus - Press and hold ALT + F10
  • Sony - Press and hold ALT + F10
  • MSi - Press and hold F3

What is a Virtual Machine?

A Virtual Machine is a like a hidden computer! I like to call it "Try it Before You Decide it"!

These virtual computer is hidden because its running inside the current running operating system on your desktop/laptop once you set it up.

Having a Virtual Machine can be very helpful and beneficial especially when a new Operating System comes out and you would first like to Try It Before You Buy It such as Windows 8 for example!

If a new Operating System comes out how could you decide if you like it or not unless you try it out. Unfortunately most stores offer just a demonstration with a Commercial User Account and Limited functionality and user control. You want to fully try it out and learn it as if you already own it!

But allot of times allot of inexperienced computer users risk trying it out by fully formatting their entire hard disk on the computer and delete everything that they know how to use and navigate on.

What happens if you don't like it? How do you go back to the way it was? Do you have to buy the Operating System all over again if its not a free version Operating System like Linux? If you purchased the Operating System again since you skipped to make recovery disks, how do you re-install it? Once you re-install it, are all the devices installed with it as well? If all the computer hardware/devices are not installed yet where do you find the DRIVERS for them? If the most important DRIVER like the Network Card is not installed with windows re-installation how are you going to connect to the Internet to download the rest of the device drivers?

Do you see where this is going? The headache is limitless and the list problems is endless!

This is where the virtual machine saves your day, because it gives you the chance to try it before you buy it if we are talking about Microsoft Windows! You could also Try it before you Decide it if you are trying Linux!

As long as your main computer is running a 64bit OS and has over 4GB of RAM (Randomly Accessed Memory) then you can test out any operating system of your choice. Learn to use it to the max in the Virtual Machine before you can feel fully comfortable to move forward to format your main computer with the new Operating System of your choice as the new default OS. Maybe even Better to Stay where you are with the current operating system that you  might be using as long as its not out of technical support and still secure for you to use!

This will better help you decide if it's worth buying a new computer with a new Operating System on it at all!

Now if your computer is running with 32bit Operating System you can still install the Virtualbox and still test out some operating systems but don't expect the performance to be fast and stable and make sure you have no less then 3GB memory and don't try to add more because 32bit Operating Systems can't read more then 3GB memory even if you added 16GB memory unless you are running Linux as the hosting Operating System!!!

My favorite Virtual Machine software is called Oracle VM VirtualBox and the best part is that its FREE! Once you download the VirtualBox you can set it up and try it out like I have been using it out since 2007.

Allocation Unit Size is Important

Allocation Unit Size should be taken very seriously in order to Prevent Computer Problems of all sorts, such as Speed Performance, Hard Disk Damage, Loss of files and etc... You see when you format a partition it normally formats it with a default allocation unit size that can be a good thing but it can also be a bad thing.

It's a good thing because when you format the drive with the NTFS files system the default allocation unit size is 4096 bytes which is equal to 4 kilobytes. That very simply means that when you install programs or download any type of data to the computer, the hard disk of the computer will not be very full very quickly.

But unfortunately its a bad thing as well because the files are so physically small since they are running on a Small Allocation Unit Size Partition that the drive will physically be getting fragmented allot more quickly and frequently. The computer will begin to run allot slower all the time.

Now if you format a partition with a Higher Allocation Unit Size then the data on that partition of the hard disk on the computer will be running a lot more faster for an extremely longer period of time. That drive/partition will barely be getting fragmented at all.

Even when the drive still happen to be fragmented, the data once again would still be read, written and processed on a high speed just because the Allocation Unit Size of the partition happens to be higher. The computer will always physically find the files on that partition of the hard disk allot quicker since they are larger and allot easier to spot and/or detect on a high allocation unit size partition.

Let me try to explain it to you by giving you a lot more simpler explanation!

Imagine that I give you a 100 dollars in one hand and another 100 dollars in the other hand. In one hand you have it by 1 dollar, in the other hand you have it by 10 dollars, in which hand would you count the hundred dollars faster? Obviously in the hand by 10 dollars!

The larger the Allocation Unit Size, the easier and faster it is to process that data and information from the hard disk. I seriously don't think that running out space is really an issue now a days because we are in the 21st century and we are no longer dealing with just Megabytes or Gigabytes but we are seriously beginning to deal with Terabytes!

The ideal Allocation Unit Size is based on the size of the partition on the hard disk that you would like to use it on!

4GB - 7GB = 4096 bytes (4K)
8GB - 15GB = 8192 bytes (8K)
16GB - 31GB = 16384 bytes (16K)
32GB - 63GB = 32768 bytes (32K)
64GB - 127GB = 65536 bytes (64K) and etc..................

The old FAT32 files system can do that all by itself when you format a drive into that particular file system but only up to 32GB!

The NTFS files system has to be manually formatted into a specific allocation unit size of your choice because if you choose default it will only be 4096 bytes regardless what size the partition of the hard disk might be!

The latest exFAT file system works mathematically as the FAT32 file system for Allocation Unit Size and on the performance side it works like NTFS only faster! It can even be used for disk sizes that are in Terabytes!

I wouldn't be surprised if some of you are still wondering " What is exFAT ? "! It really stands for Extended File Allocation Table and even though its a file system mainly designed for USB Flash Drives, SD Cards, Pen drives and etc.. I still really enjoy using it on my primary Hard Disk as one of my Primary Partitions for Downloading and I still haven't been disappointed even once since late 2008.

Enable USB Support in Virtualbox on Linux via Terminal

Linux is getting better and better everyday and I got to be honest with you I really am thinking of switching over to Linux completely! It will still take a bit of time for full acceptance of only Linux but until then I can always have Windows aside whenever I need it!

There are plenty of software that can run only on Windows and its crucial that I still have it, that's why I've installed it on Virtualbox but I also need to access files that I've saved on my USB from Picture Editing to Word Documents and so forth on my USB!

Enabling USB Support to your Virtual Machine via Virtualbox is very important and its also necessary when its crucial times to open certain files on Windows and Windows related Programs! And its also convenient when you still want to install your USB connected printer as Well, even though Linux already covers most of them through generic drivers.

just open the Terminal and type sudo su and press Enter then it will ask for your password so type it out and press Enter.

Doing this will grant you root access and then you can give it the final command to enable USB support on Virtualbox in Linux.

The following should be entered in the Terminal usermod computers -a -G vboxusers and press Enter (computers was my username, what's your username on Linux that's the one you should use in this command!)!

Now all you have to do is restart the computer and enjoy the USB 2.0 support on your virtual machine operating system of your choice in Virtualbox.

Update Linux via Terminal

You know that keeping your operating system up to date is very important

You can update Ubuntu Linux via Terminal instead of just using the Update Manager.

I find it pretty convenient to update my system especially when I am already working in the terminal in advance and when I know that I have the time to check if my system is up to date.

just open the terminal if yours isn’t already running and inside it just type sudo su and press Enter to gain Root Access.

It will ask for your user password so just type it out and press enter.

Then in the terminal the directory should change from somethinbg like this

computersguide@computersguide-System-Product-Name:~$

into something like that below which grants you root access!

root@computersguide-System-Product-Name:/home/computersguide#

then just type apt-get upgrade and press Enter.

It will describe how many updates are available and how much space it will require to complete and if you agree with the updates then press Y as in Yes and press Enter to begin updating your system!

Once it completes you can close the terminal and reboot or use the terminal to reboot like I show on my sudo su shutdown in Linux Terminal YouTube Video .
